About CivilSite.in
CivilSite.in is a free set of civil engineering tools, price references and step-by-step guides built for the way houses are actually built in India. Our aim is simple: put the numbers a site engineer, contractor or self-builder needs — unit conversions, material quantities, today's steel and cement rates, standard dimensions, labour charges and the arithmetic behind them — in one place, for free, with the reasoning shown rather than hidden.
What we cover
- Unit converters for the units on Indian drawings and land records — soot, gunta, gaj, cent, dhur, brass — alongside everyday length, area, weight and pressure.
- Construction calculators for concrete, steel weight, slab and stirrup reinforcement, column loads and whole-house cost.
- Material price lists for TMT steel (brand-wise), cement, sand, aggregate and finishing materials, with the caveat that rates are indicative and move with the market.
- Standard dimensions for rooms, ceilings, columns and fitting heights — labelled clearly as code-mandated or common practice.
- Labour rates and work charges for masonry, plastering, tiling, plumbing and electrical work.
- Construction guides and quality checklists for building a house from foundation to finish.
How our content is made
Written and reviewed by practising civil engineers with 10+ years of Indian residential construction experience. Every calculator states the formula it uses and the IS code or thumb rule it comes from, so you can check the working rather than trust a black box. Where a figure is an Indian Standard requirement (IS 456, IS 875, IS 1786 and others), we say so; where it is convention rather than code, we say that too — because the difference matters on site.
We take accuracy seriously. Our tools are checked against the formulas and published tables they rely on, and the site is written to reflect ordinary residential RCC-frame construction. We are transparent about the limits of a thumb rule: it is a way to sanity-check a number, not a substitute for a structural design.
Prices and rates — an honest note
Construction material and labour rates in India vary by city, dealer, brand, grade and quantity, and they change constantly. The price figures on this site are indicative reference ranges to help you judge a quote and plan a budget — always confirm the current rate with a local supplier before you buy. If you spot a rate that looks off for your city, please tell us.
What we do not do
CivilSite.in provides general information and estimation tools for education and planning. It does not provide structural design, legal, or professional engineering services, and nothing here replaces a qualified structural engineer or licensed professional for your specific project. Please read our disclaimer for the full position.
Privacy
Our tools run entirely in your browser. Calculator inputs, your CV in the CV builder, and checklist progress are saved on your own device and are never uploaded to us. See our privacy policy for details on cookies and advertising.
